Resetting
Knowing when to disengage and restart safely from a neutral position.
What this phase means
Resetting is the discipline to disengage from a dead exchange and restart from neutral. It costs nothing on the scoreboard and saves energy for the next opening.
What to recognize
- +When an exchange has stalled
- +When fatigue is replacing technique
- +When the opponent has stabilized
- +When you are spending more than you are earning
- +A safe path back to neutral
Beginner mistake
Refusing to disengage — staying tangled in a losing exchange because pulling out "feels like losing".
Intermediate mistake
Resetting too early and giving up positions you were close to winning, instead of using the reset as a strategic tool.
